John Hostler

Data Analytics • Prospect Research • Resource Optimization

Development knowledge black belt. A longstanding advocate for the application of knowledge management principles in fundraising environments, John Hostler brings over 12 years of senior-level nonprofit and development operations experience to the Grant Park Group. Mr. Hostler’s St. Louis-based consultancy, Development Diagnostics, LLC, merged with GPG in 2012.

Prior to launching Development Diagnostics, John retooled and revitalized prospect management and advancement services programs at Jane Addams Hull House Association, St. Bonaventure University, Columbia College Chicago, and Saint Louis University. In these roles, he was responsible for the optimization, integration, and day-to-day operations of support functions including prospect research, prospect management, gift processing, records, reporting, analytics, and database management. John and his development services teams worked closely with executive leadership to streamline business processes, eliminate silos, and improve the flow of information across organizational boundaries. He played an integral role in campaign planning and strategy at both St. Bonaventure University and Columbia College Chicago.

John began his nonprofit career as development director for KOPN Radio in Columbia, Missouri while attending graduate school. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and MBA from the University of Missouri.

When he’s not extracting value from databases, John can be found writing critically praised books on sleight of hand.
